Roger Maddocks

Roger is from a small village in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, called Ruardean (just don’t mention “who killed the bear”!) He later moved from the village to the nearby town of Cinderford, where he continues to live today.

Roger has loved drawing from a very young age and has always found it a great way to relax and express his emotions.

In his work, he mostly uses pens and pencils, although he admits he probably should paint more! These days, he mainly gets the opportunity to pick up a paintbrush when painting bins.

One of the things that makes Roger happiest is seeing people smile at his cartoons. Over the years, he has created plenty of cartoons featuring Mr Eavis and a cow in the run-up to Glastonbury Festival. Fellow bin painters aren’t safe either, as they regularly find themselves becoming the subjects of one of his doodles!

Surprisingly, Roger’s first visit to Glastonbury Festival wasn’t until 2014, when he attended with his family. They all absolutely loved the experience.

He returned in 2019 after being offered a place as a bin painter, and it has become an amazing part of his Glastonbury experience. Roger wishes everyone could have the opportunity to experience both the festival and the unique world of bin painting.

Roger is passionate about his art, even if confidence sometimes gets the better of him. Above everything, he loves his family and hopes that one day his grandchildren will get the chance to visit Glastonbury Festival and fall in love with it too.
